“Homes of Heroes”. These homes in Calle 25 de Enero (25th of January Street), were constructed in honor and recognition of the firefighters who heroically worked to put out a historic fire known as “El Polvorin” in the town of Ponce in 1889.  Thirty nice homes were built for the firefighters and their families.  Descendants of the firefighters still occupy these homes painted in red with black stripes just like “Parque de Bombas” located at the plaza.
