Learn to Surf in Rincon

Pools Beach, located on the west coast of the island of Puerto Rico in the town of Rincon, is one of the most intimate beaches in this surfing town, attracting those seeking a mellow vibe.  While the action occurs on the waves, on the sand, we often see solo travelers reading a book, a small group of teens taking a break from the surf to enjoy sunbathing or napping on the sand, or a young family making sand castles while daddy or mommy is surfing.  Even during the winter months in Rincon, when surfing is best, you won’t find crowds at Pools, since the more active festive crowd heads next door to Sandy Beach.

Summertime brings on a new and awaited pleasure…

… the natural pool that forms on the east corner next to the rocky outcrop that our family likes to call the Natural Navy Tank, reminiscent of the real abandoned Navy Tank that sits on the sand at Flamenco Beach in Culebra.  More about Pools Beach during the Summer months is further below.

Top Rated Accommodations in Rincon

Pools Beach is situated between Spanish Wall and Sandy, you can walk all the way to this beach from Domes.  Some stretches are narrow, it gets more room during the summer months, and the widest sandy space is on the east corner by the natural pool.

The landscape is lush, with a variety of plants, such as the beautiful Playa Uvera, Almond trees, and Coconut Palm Trees among others.

Our favorite spot is under a young palm tree…

… providing the perfect shade and backrest to relax, read a book and watch surfers.

The pleasures of Pools Beach during the Summer

Summertime is high season time for Puerto Ricans, especially during weekends and holiday weeks.  Those that prefer a quiet beach scene, will find Pools a haven where you can take a nice walk, and enjoy the beach without crowds.  For the quietest scene, get here on weekdays early in the morning.

The photo below is what it typically looks like each time we go during the summer… crisp blue-tinted clear water to simply sit and refresh from the sun.

Further in, the “natural pool” area is shallow just a few feet deep in normal weather conditions.  At times we have seen sea urchins, so watch where you step or wear water shoes for added protection.
